Strawberries have a history that goes back over 2200 years. Strawberries grew wild in Italy as early as 234 B.C. Wild strawberries were found in Virginia by the first Europeans when their ships landed in 1588 and early settlers in Massachusetts enjoyed strawberries grown by Native Americans. Since 1860 strawberries have been widely cultivated throughout the United States.
